Our Story The spirit of a jaajam

Why a hand-block-printed floor spread gave its name to Udaipur’s warmest rooftop — and what that still means at every table we lay.

What is a “Jaajam”?

A floor spread that meant
everyone sits together

In the royal courts and village chaupals of Rajasthan, the jaajam was never just a floor covering. A large, hand-block-printed cotton spread, it came out whenever the community gathered — for feasts, festivals, panchayats and celebrations. To sit on the jaajam was to share food, stories and status as equals.

Our restaurant carries that tradition forward. Every guest is welcomed like family, every meal is a gathering, and every evening is a small celebration — the way it has been in Mewar for centuries.

Our Journey

Rooted in Mewar,
made for the world

Jaajam was born on Lake Palace Road, opposite Rangnivas Palace, from a simple idea — serve the real flavours of Rajasthan in a setting that honours where they came from, while making room for tastes from everywhere else.

Our kitchen is led by chefs who have mastered both traditional Mewari recipes and global cuisines. From the first sip of soup to the last bite of dessert, everything is prepared fresh, with hand-ground spices and time-honoured technique. Nothing sits waiting.

The Jaajam Experience

Five things you will notice
before the food arrives

  • 01

    Heritage design

The rooftop is built in classic Rajasthani style — jharokha-inspired arches, hand-block textiles, warm earthen tones and Mewari motifs. The indoor hall carries hand-painted ceilings and traditional tilework.

  • 02

    Rooftop views

Uninterrupted views of the Udaipur skyline, the old city rooftops and the lit-up City Palace — a dining backdrop very few restaurants in the city can offer.

  • 03

    True Rajasthani food

We don’t serve tourist versions of Rajasthani food. Our Laal Maas is properly fiery, our baatis are ghee-soaked, and our churma is made the way grandmothers make it.

  • 04

    A complete multi-cuisine menu

Alongside the Rajasthani classics: North Indian, Chinese, Continental, tandoor, soups, sandwiches and salads — with generous veg, vegan and non-veg options.

  • 05

    A full bar

Cocktails, mocktails, wines, premium spirits and chilled beers, poured on the terrace — the right companion to a Udaipur sunset.
